Kalcord is the active form of vitamin D₃, essential for regulating calcium and phosphate metabolism in the body. It is commonly used in capsule form to treat conditions related to calcium imbalances
Uses:
1.Secondary Hyperparathyroidism: Management of elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels and resultant metabolic bone disease in patients with moderate to severe chronic renal failure
2.Hypocalcemia in Dialysis Patients: Treatment of low calcium levels and associated bone disease in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis.
3.Hypoparathyroidism: Management of hypocalcemia and its clinical manifestations in patients with postsurgical hypoparathyroidism, idiopathic hypoparathyroidism, and pseudohypoparathyroidism.
Dosage and Administration:
1.Predialysis Patients: The recommended initial dosage is 0.25 mcg/day in adults and pediatric patients aged 3 years and older. This dosage may be increased if necessary to 0.5 mcg/day.
2.Dialysis Patients: The recommended initial dosage is 0.25 mcg/day. The dose may be increased by 0.25 mcg daily every 4 to 8 weeks. Most patients respond to 0.5 to 1 mcg daily.
3.Hypoparathyroidism: The recommended initial dosage is 0.25 mcg/day given in the morning. If a satisfactory response is not observed, the dose may be increased at 2- to 4-week intervals.
